John Andon was raised in California and moved to Oregon in 2004. John graduated from University of California, Davis Law School in 2002. Prior to law school, John studied and taught English Literature at UC Davis.

John is an experienced trial attorney. He has previously worked as an attorney at Southern Oregon Public Defender in Grants Pass, OR, where he handled all levels of felony and misdemeanor cases. John has also worked at several law firms in California, where he acquired experience in the areas of family law, wills/trusts, and business litigation. John is bilingual in Spanish.

In his free time, John enjoys bicycling and spending time with his extended family in the Portland area.
 

Grant R. Burton

Grant R. Burton was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1998 with a degree in economics. He subsequently attended law school at the University of Arizona, where he clerked for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the Tucson City Prosecutor’s Office. Since moving to Oregon in 2001, Grant has worked as an attorney in Hillsboro, Beaverton, Portland, and Pendleton. Grant started his own law practice in September 2005, which became Burton McCaffery P.C. in January 2006. In September 2006, Burton McCaffery P.C. joined forces with Garland Law Offices P.C. to become Garland Burton McCaffery P.C. He is currently the managing attorney at Garland Burton McCaffery P.C.
 

Jennifer L. Davis

Jennifer L. Davis was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon. She graduated from Willamette University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Politics with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. In addition to her academic career, she was also an active member of the Willamette University Debate Union. Ms. Davis obtained her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 2002. She has been a member of Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLS) since 2000. Ms Davis became a member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (OCDLA) in 2003.
 

Marvin J. Garland

Marvin J. Garland has lived in Hillsboro since 1955.  He completed his undergraduate degree at Portland State University in 1969, majoring in Political Science, with minors in Business Administration and Psychology. 

Marvin earned his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 1973. That same year, Mr. Garland began his private general practice in Hillsboro. 

In addition to membership in the Oregon State Bar, he is admitted to practice in the Federal District Court for the District of Oregon.
 

Nicholas A. Heydenrych

Nicholas A. Heydenrych has lived in Oregon since 1992. He graduated from Oregon State University in 2002, earning honors and distinction with degrees in political science and psychology. He subsequently attended law school at the College of William & Mary, graduating in 2005. During law school he clerked for the Portland civil litigation firm Markowitz Herbold and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division.

In his spare time he has volunteered for the Classroom Law Project, Sun Community Schools, St. Andrews legal clinic, and as a campaign advisor to congressional candidate Carol Voisin.

When not working on cases, Nicholas enjoys spending time with his family.
 

David P. McCaffery

David P. McCaffery is a native Oregonian that enjoys serving the members of his community in Oregon’s state and federal courts. His practice strongly emphasizes the importance of client understanding. Aware that legal conflict is a huge source of uncertainty and discomfort, David takes special efforts to ensure that clients have a sense for where they stand in the legal process. Moreover, his work is strongly directed towards effective representation and sensible cost effective resolution. Whether a case can be resolved through a letter, mediation, or jury trial, David is committed to serving his client’s needs every step of the way.

David practices in the areas of family law, civil litigation, personal injury, and criminal defense. With solid skills for negotiation and trial advocacy, he has helped many clients obtain favorable settlements and verdicts.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, David worked in a large bank’s corporate trust department and then later taught English at a university in Thailand for two years. In law school, served as the Managing Editor of Oregon Review of International Law and did pro bono work for a legal aid organization. He developed his sense for courtroom advocacy as an intern with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

When not working on his cases, David enjoys spending time with his family, playing squash, running, reading, and gardening. He is an avid fan of ethnic cuisine, the outdoors, and traveling.

Nick Merrill

Nick Merrill was born in Portland in 1972. His first home was right here in Hillsboro on Walnut Street, just a few blocks from our offices. After graduating from Aloha High School, he attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Philosophy.

Nick graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2001. While there, he served as president of the Environmental Law Society, edited for the Idaho Law Review, and worked as a court-certified intern with the Nez Perce County Public Defender. Searching for a change of scenery after law school, Nick found himself in the desert outside of Phoenix, AZ, where he worked for the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office until returning to Oregon in 2005.

Still regularly practicing in the area of criminal defense, Nick’s interests and expertise have led to the ongoing development of a real estate and land use practice. He is the current Assistant Editor for the Oregon State Bar’s Real Estate and Land Use Digest.

Nick is licensed to practice law in both Oregon and Arizona. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, fishing, and spending time at his sister’s resort in Nehalem and with his wife and family.
  

Robert D. Olsen

Robert D. Olsen received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Columbia College and moved to Oregon in 1991 where he completed his Juris Doctor degree at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. Prior to his move to Oregon, he was a criminal investigator in the military, a police officer in Mtn. View, CA, and a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, assigned to the San Francisco Field Division.

In addition to his extensive background in law enforcement, he is a volunteer at the Washington County Family Law Facilitator’s office, assisting with all aspects of domestic relations. Robert is admitted to practice law in both Oregon and Hawaii.
 

Lisa K. Sloman

Lisa K. Sloman received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from San Francisco State University. She attended law school at Golden Gate University School of Law, where she served as writer and editor for the Golden Gate Law Review. Lisa graduated with honors in 2005, earning certificates with distinction in both Criminal Law and Litigation. While in law school, Lisa interned with the Northern California Innocence Project, where she helped exonerate a wrongly convicted man through the use of DNA testing. After relocating to Portland, Lisa worked as an employment law attorney until joining the law firm of Garland Burton McCaffery in 2007. Lisa is licensed to practice law in both Oregon and California.

In her spare time, Lisa enjoys movies, concerts, kayaking, and bicycling with her husband, who is a chef.
