Probate
The probate of an estate is
for the purposes of gathering the assets of the estate, transferring
Title to property, paying taxes if applicable, and distributing
the estate either to the persons named in a will, or to Heirs
at Law.
Heirs at Law are those persons whom the Statute designates to
receive the assets of an estate if a person does not leave a will.
Taxes are paid to the government only if an estate is greater
than the amount that is exempt from taxation. At the present time,
the exemption from Federal taxation is $1,500,000 per person.
This amount increases to $2,500,000 in the years 2006 and 2007.
There are several very good ways to avoid probate of an estate,
and also ways to help save inheritance taxes.
